How to choose a system

If you are choosing a treatment plant for the first time, start with three questions: how the property is used, how many people live there and what the site conditions are.

1. Permanent or seasonal living

In a permanently occupied house the system works with a steady load. In a summer cottage the load varies, and the system sometimes stands idle for weeks or months. The biological process needs time to recover after a break, so for seasonal use a suitable model and correct operation are important.

2. How many people live in the house

Capacity is chosen by the number of people living in the house permanently. Also consider frequent guests and possible changes in the family. A system that is too small will not cope with the load, while one that is too large may work inefficiently.

Number of peopleRecommended model
1–4PURA-4
5–6PURA-6
7–10PURA-9 (up to 9 people; more — by individual calculation)

3. Site conditions

  • Groundwater level — affects installation and the discharge of treated water.
  • Soil type — sand or clay determines whether water can be infiltrated into the ground.
  • Where to discharge treated water — ground, ditch or another solution.
  • Distances — to the house, the drinking water well and the neighbour’s boundary.
  • Access — whether machinery can drive up for delivery and sludge removal.
